The TMC isn't just a course—it’s a transition. It is the highest level of instruction we offer outside of a bespoke private trip.
We leverage the Southern Alps’ shifting weather and demanding terrain to teach you how to adapt, survive, and thrive in the big mountains.
Instead of rigid "classroom" blocks, we focus on coached ascents.
You will develop advanced skills on snow, ice, and rock while potentially bagging worthy summits like Mt Hamilton or Mt Green.
With a maximum of four participants per guide, the focus is on your independence. You’ll be encouraged to problem-solve and take the lead, backed by the expertise of a professional mountain guide.

The TMC isn't about learning how to climb; it’s about learning how to manage the climb.
Core competencies: We move beyond the basics into fluid multi-pitch rock and technical ice. You’ll learn to move faster and more securely on mixed ground.
Advanced Rope-Work: Refine the art of the transitions between rock, ice, and snow. We cover advanced anchor building and rope management for complex descents.
Mountain Leadership: The "soft skills" are often the most critical. You’ll lead on navigation, interpret real-time weather shifts, and refine your decision-making under the guidance of our professional guides.
Security and Safety: Explore emergency bivouac strategies and modern avalanche forecasting to ensure you have the tools to handle the unexpected.
The Independent Path: We conclude with personalised trip planning and training.
The TMC is an advanced course. To ensure the safety and progression of the group, we require a solid foundation of prior experience.
