Insurance for accidents in the mountains

There is a total exclusion of cover whilst in the mountains with Comprehensive's policies - and most other insurance brokers.

Overseas visitors who want insurance for mountaineering activities must arrange this independently before leaving home. This extra cover is made at your discretion.

Accident Compensation Corporation

New Zealand's Accident Compensation (ACC) system covers all visitors to our country. ACC will cover a substantial part (over 80%) of costs in the event of an accident. This includes evacuation and/or medical treatment, and rehabilitation.

The ACC system is based on a “no fault” principle. There is a complete bar to legal action for damages as a result of any accident.

Because of the ACC system, many (if not most) of our clients do not take an extension for "adventure activities" on their travel insurance.
