You've probably looked around, and are wondering, "beyond the names of your packages - what's the difference between Alpine Guides and the rest? ". Here's 7 reasons to choose us.
Alpine Guides is a small privately owned NZ company. We are people passionate about the mountains, and about sharing experiences in them.
Mount Cook is the hub of NZ mountaineering, and we are based in Aoraki/ Mt Cook National Park. We have NZ's highest peaks and most extensive glaciation on our doorstep.
Alpine Guides developed from the guiding tradition of the Hermitage guides of the early 20th Century. The company was established in 1967. We're still here after 40 years offering stability and security when you book.
All our mountain guides are professionals qualified through the IFMGA / NZMGA. We assign appropriately qualified guides to each guiding mission, and Alpine Guides complies with (and exceeds) NZMGA guidelines of safe practice. Learn more about our guides here ››
Base support staff, FM radio network, satellite phone comms, ground and air transport coordination, local accommodation, avalanche hazard advisory support, a well stocked gear shop, and the best range of rental technical equipment in NZ...whew!
Some guiding companies claim to offer non-stop 'action' - that's great, but mountain guiding is not bungy jumping. Your safety while enjoying the mountains is our overriding concern.
On our trips you'll get excitement a-plenty. You'll visit amazing places, develop new skills, and at times will be challenged. But we want you to go home. Alive - and hopefully enriched by your time here.
All our trips and courses are realistic, and they need to be when set against the scale of the terrain and range of conditions that our dynamic climate can deliver. We have developed, tested, and refined our guiding program over 40 years to give the best chance of success.
Imitation is the sincerest form. We have the honour of other guiding outfits emulating our trip formats, giving their courses identical names, plagiarising our client information, and so on... What does this say? We think it's an easy call to make.
From ice climbing and ski mountaineering to avalanche courses and ski touring.
Introductory to advanced climbing courses, guided ascents and expeditions on NZ's highest peaks.
