Alpine Guides | Heritage & Professionalism

Alpine Guides is New Zealand's longest established mountain and ski guiding business. "AGL" is privately owned and managed (since 2000) by New Zealand IFMGA mountain guides Bryan Carter and Kevin Boekholt.

Location: Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park

Alpine Guides is based year round in Mt Cook Village, at the heart of Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. All but one of NZ's 3,000 metre peaks are on our doorstep. We also guide at:

  • Mt Aspiring National Park (including Mount Aspiring)
  • Westland National Park
  • Fiordland National Park (The Darrans)
  • The Remarkables (Queenstown)

Commitment to Professionalism & Safety

Since inception Alpine Guides set the standards of safety and professionalism for New Zealand mountain and ski guiding. We employ only qualified mountain guides (NZMGA / IFMGA certified).

AGL mentored many of New Zealand's most recognised mountain guides. Today we continue to lead upcoming guides' development and training. Read more about our commitment to safety ›

Roots in the "Golden Age"

Alpine Guides began in 1966 as "Alpine Instruction Ltd". The main business was running instruction courses out of Ball Hut.

The company's roots stretch back to the great guiding era of the 1880's to 1950's.

The Hermitage guides of the Mt Cook area established a tradition of professional service, technical skill and sound judgment - which Alpine Guides carries through to today.
