Alpine Guides was set up in 1967 (originally called "Alpine Instruction Ltd"), and is New Zealand's longest established mountain and ski guiding company.
The company's roots stretch back to the great guiding era of the 1880's to 1950's, when the Hermitage guides of the Mt Cook area established a tradition of professional service, technical skill and sound judgment.
Alpine Guides has a year-round operational base in the incredible Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. Our office in Methven (Methven Heliskiing) opens June - October.
Our winter operations include heliskiing, glacier skiing (Ski The Tasman), ski touring and avalanche courses.
Through the summer months we run a busy mountain climbing course program, along with guided ascents of New Zealand's classic peaks - including Mt Aspiring, Mt Cook and Mt Tasman.
The company has been privately owned since 2000 by its directors, Bryan Carter, and Kevin Boekholt. Both are fully qualified IFMGA guides, with over 50 years combined experience with Alpine Guides.
The long tradition of guiding at Mt Cook has carried over to the latest generation of guides.
Guiding is more than an occupation, or a means to instruct hard technical skills. It is a passion. One that compels us to share these high places with our friends and clients.
Since it's inception Alpine Guides has continually set the standards of safety and professionalism for New Zealand mountain and ski guiding.
We've been the mentor for most of NZ's leading mountain guides, and continue to be at the forefront of guides' development and training.
Today, 40 years on, our commitment to excellence is undiminished.
All of our mountain and ski guides are professionals, trained and certified through the NZMGA.
